Agrivoltaic greenhouse with integrated solar energy

Research Overview

TRDC develops applied, multidisciplinary research agendas built around measurable value.

Research Domains

Core domains span agri-voltaics, biochemistry, biology, computer science, health and public health, environmental research, and heritage-oriented digital technologies.

Research Groups

Specialized research groups coordinate scientific focus areas and collaboration programs.

Running Projects

Current project tracks include TriSolar (agri-voltaic greenhouse systems), Agrorim (green pest-control encapsulation), HDIA (Arabic-script OCR and manuscript intelligence), UriCont (assistive urological technology), and Azudi (innovative whitefly-control chemistry).

COMGRAV

Competitive Greenhouse Agrivoltaics

Advanced in-greenhouse agrivoltaics for renewable electricity generation without compromising agricultural yield.

Technology Innovation

The COMGRAV system is an internal dynamic agrivoltaic platform controlled by DLI-based algorithms and real-time PAR radiation, temperature, and humidity sensing.

  • - Automatic panel-angle regulation based on crop light demand
  • - Prevents persistent shading and improves light distribution
  • - Optimizes energy output and crop-performance balance

Key Results (2-Year Study)

  • - Stable electricity generation under commercial greenhouse operation
  • - Full preservation of crop productivity
  • - Seasonal tomato improvement during summer heat stress
  • - Approximately 22% water savings
  • - Technology Readiness Level achieved: TRL7

Why This Matters to Farmers

COMGRAV enables dual-value greenhouse operations where the same infrastructure supports crop production and renewable electricity.

  • - Additional revenue or electricity cost reduction
  • - Higher financial resilience for greenhouse operations
  • - Improved summer microclimate management
  • - No agricultural land-use conversion required

National and Regulatory Contribution

  • - Aligned with Israeli agrivoltaics regulatory direction
  • - Supports renewable energy deployment targets
  • - Preserves food-security priorities
  • - Contributes to CO2 emission reduction pathways

Policy and Knowledge Day (Dec 2025)

A professional workshop was held with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Nature and Parks Authority. COMGRAV outcomes were presented and the system was demonstrated in TRDC's greenhouse environment.
